Insulation and Continuity Testers
The insulating material jacket coating on the copper conductors of a cable can become damaged over the cable's lifetime. Insulation testing essentially allows you to check the quality of a cable's insulation.
To test the quality of the insulation, the test instrument injects a high voltage down the cable which then measures for breakdowns in the cable (leakage current). From the reading you receive you can then track down the fault or be sure that the cable has not deteriorated.
